The short answer

Pick Ad Radar if

  • You need to know what competitors are scaling on Meta, not how your own ads perform.
  • You want an estimated spend on every competitor ad, and only ads past $50k.
  • Your account is small or new, so your own data can't tell you much yet.
  • You want Claude to search winning ads and write briefs, for $49 every 4 weeks.

Pick Motion if

  • You spend enough on ads that knowing which of your creatives work is worth $750 a month or more.
  • You run ads on Meta, TikTok, YouTube or LinkedIn and want one creative report across them.
  • You want unlimited seats and ad accounts, with reports and alerts pushed into Slack.
  • You want attribution tools like Northbeam feeding your creative reports (Pro plan).

Motion creative analytics vs Ad Radar: two different jobs

Searches for "Motion vs" a research tool usually mix up two jobs. Creative analytics reads your own ad accounts. It tags every creative you have run and tells you which hooks, formats and angles drove results. Competitor research reads public ad libraries and shows what other brands are running and scaling. It knows nothing about your results.

Motion is built for the first job. Its homepage describes it as AI-powered creative analytics that helps marketers know "what's working, why it's working, and the exact ads to make next", and says it is trusted by 2,100 teams. Ad Radar, which publishes this page, is built for the second. It never asks for access to your Business Manager, so it can't report on your own ads at all.

That makes this an unusual comparison: for most teams the honest answer is not "one or the other" but "which one first".

What Motion does well

Motion connects to Meta, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn ad accounts. According to its pricing page, Starter "pre-watches, tags & analyzes every creative you've run", ranks them on an ad leaderboard and adds inspiration, benchmarks and MCP access. Reports, briefs and hook ideas go to Slack, with daily and weekly routine reports, iteration finders and alerts.

Motion also covers some competitor research. Its ad research page lets you follow competitor brands and save their Facebook ads automatically, with a view of their media mix, their landing pages and which ads have been running longest. If you already pay for Motion, that may be enough research for a team that follows a handful of known rivals.

What Ad Radar does instead

Ad Radar tracks the Meta ads of DTC brands, estimates each ad's spend from how its engagement grows over time, and keeps only ads at $50k or more. On the October 9, 2026 snapshot that was 2,443 ads from 749 brands, with a median estimated spend of about $223K. The figure is an estimate and labeled as one: use it to rank ads against each other, not to audit a competitor's books. Our methodology explains how the board is built.

Every ad is tagged on ten dimensions, and the search box covers headlines, body copy and video transcripts. You can follow any brand by pasting its Meta Ad Library link, get a Today briefing of what changed and an alert when an ad turns into a winner, and save ads from the Ad Library with the Chrome extension, which is free to install and works with an Ad Radar membership. The MCP server lets Claude search the board and turn a winner into a brief. See how the MCP server works.

The difference with Motion's research tools is where you start. Motion shows you the brands you chose to follow. Ad Radar starts from the ads that already carry budgets, including from brands you didn't know to look at.

When to use Motion and Ad Radar together

Creative analytics has a blind spot built in: it can only rank what you have already made. If you never tested a format, your dashboard can't tell you whether it would have worked. Competitor data fills that gap. This is how production formats performed across the 2,443 ads on the October 9 snapshot, measured by the share that reach our top tier (the top 10% by winner score):

Production formatAdsMedian est. spendTop tier
Footage + voiceover177$345K14%
UGC selfie78$592K13%
Founder or expert145$296K12%
Product demo97$301K8%
AI-generated77$229K3%

If your account has only run UGC and product demos, Motion will tell you which of those won. It can't tell you that footage with a voiceover reaches the top tier more often across the market, because you have no such ads to compare. The full breakdown is in Motion app alternatives.

A simple way to run both:

  1. Tag your ads and competitor ads the same way. One taxonomy for hook, angle, awareness and format, so a "problem-aware founder ad" means the same in both tools. Our AI ad tagging guide shows how.
  2. Find the formats you have never tested. A format that scales for competitors and has zero rows in your Motion reports is a test candidate.
  3. Brief from the overlap. Where your data and the market agree, iterate. Where they disagree, try a new concept. See iterations vs new concepts.
  4. Review both every week. Put both views on one page in your weekly creative review.

When one tool is enough: below a few thousand dollars a month in spend, your account doesn't produce enough data for analytics to say much, and competitor research is the better first buy. A team with a large budget that follows five known rivals and wants reporting in Slack may find Motion's built-in research covers it.

Atria vs Motion, and where Ad Radar fits

If you are choosing a creative analytics tool, Atria is the comparison that comes up most. Both analyze your own ad accounts. On its pricing page, Atria Core is $129 a month billed annually for up to $500k in monthly ad spend, 5 ad accounts and 5 seats, and it bundles competitor tracking (50 brands on Core) and AI generation. Motion Starter costs more, $750 a month for up to $50k in spend, and in exchange gives unlimited seats and ad accounts, Slack reporting and MCP access.

Ad Radar is not a third option for that choice, since it doesn't analyze your account. It sits next to either one. We compare it with Atria's research side in Ad Radar vs Atria, and cover the wider analytics category in creative analytics tools compared.

Price

Ad Radar Membership is $49 every 4 weeks at the launch price (list $99), with one seat; that is $637 over a year of 13 charges. Agency is $199 every 4 weeks with 5 seats and 25 client workspaces.

Motion Starter is $750 a month, $9,000 a year, for brands spending up to $50k a month on ads. Pro is $1,200 a month above $50k, and Growth is priced on request above $125k. Running both costs about $800 a month at the entry plans, and Ad Radar is roughly 6% of that.

Where Motion is better

  • It knows your results. Only a tool connected to your account can tell you which of your ads made money. Ad Radar can't.
  • More platforms. Motion reports on Meta, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn. Ad Radar covers Meta only for now.
  • No per-seat pricing. Unlimited seats and ad accounts suit large creative teams and agencies.
  • Work pushed into Slack. Reports, iteration finders and alerts land where the team already talks; Pro adds first-pass video QA there.
  • Attribution. Pro connects Northbeam and Google Analytics, so creative results are not judged on platform numbers alone.

Questions

Is Ad Radar an alternative to Motion creative analytics?

Not for the same job. Motion connects to your ad accounts and tells you which of your own creatives work. Ad Radar doesn't connect to any ad account: it shows competitor Meta ads with $50k or more in estimated spend, tagged on ten dimensions. Many teams run one tool of each kind.

How much does Motion creative analytics cost?

Motion's pricing page, checked October 12, 2026, lists Starter at $750 a month for up to $50k in monthly ad spend and Pro at $1,200 a month above $50k. Growth, for spend above $125k a month, is custom. Starter includes unlimited seats and ad accounts.

Does Motion track competitor ads?

Yes. Motion's research tools let you follow competitor brands and save their Facebook ads automatically, with their media mix, landing pages and which ads have run longest. Ad Radar works from the other direction: it tracks brands across the market and shows only ads that already passed $50k in estimated spend.

Can I use Motion and Ad Radar together?

Yes, and that is the setup we recommend if you can afford Motion. Motion ranks what you have already tested. Ad Radar shows the hooks, angles and formats that are carrying budgets for other brands, including formats your account has never tried.

Atria vs Motion: which one should I pick?

Both analyze your own ad accounts. Atria Core is $129 a month billed annually for up to $500k in monthly spend, 5 ad accounts and 5 seats, and adds competitor tracking and AI generation. Motion Starter is $750 a month for up to $50k in spend with unlimited seats and ad accounts, Slack reports and MCP access. Pick on team size and how much reporting you need.

Does Ad Radar connect to my ad account?

No. Ad Radar reads the public Meta Ad Library only. It never asks for access to your Business Manager, so it can't report on your own results.

Is this the Motion calendar app?

No. This page is about Motion the creative analytics platform at motionapp.com, used by paid social teams. The Motion calendar and task manager is a different company.
