How this ad spend estimator works
Meta doesn't publish how much a brand spends on commercial ads. What it does publish, in the Meta Ad Library, is every active ad, when it started and the public engagement on it. Ad Radar records those signals again and again over time and turns them into an estimated spend for each ad with a calibrated model. An ad counts as winning once that estimate passes $50K, because advertisers rarely keep paying for an ad that doesn't pay back.
The figure in the checker is the sum of those estimates across a brand's winning ads. It ranks brands well and can miss any single number by a wide margin, so use it to compare competitors in the same category, not as an invoice. The methodology explains the inputs and the limits, and how to estimate a competitor's Meta ad spend walks through doing it by hand.
Why a brand has no estimate
- It has fewer than 5 winning ads. The free index only includes brands with at least 5 ads past $50K, so one lucky ad doesn't make a ranking.
- None of its ads has passed $50K in estimated spend. The board only keeps winners. A brand testing many small ads won't show up until one of them scales.
- Ad Radar doesn't follow it yet. The board covers DTC and e-commerce brands on Meta. In the app you can add any brand by pasting its Meta Ad Library link.
From a Facebook ad spend checker to the ads themselves
Knowing that a competitor spends a lot is the start. The brand pages show which ads that money is behind: the opening line, the format, the days live. For the research routine around it, see how to find winning Facebook ads and a weekly competitor ad research process. If you're choosing a tool for this, the best ad spy tools compares the options and Ad Radar vs Foreplay covers one of them in detail.
Figures marked as estimated spend come from Ad Radar's model of engagement on public Meta Ad Library ads. They are estimates, labeled as such, and are best used to rank ads against each other. How the board is built.
