The short answer
A presell page warms the visitor up before the product page: an advertorial, a listicle or a quiz. On our board, 184 winning Meta ads point to one. They reach Ad Radar's top tier 14.1% of the time, against 9.7% for ads that go straight to the store, with a higher median estimated spend ($264K vs $223K).
What the data says about presell pages
A presell page is any page whose job is to make the sale easier on the next page. On the Ad Radar board we tag three page types that do this: advertorials, listicles and quizzes. Together they sit behind 184 of the 1,759 winning Meta ads with a classified destination.
| Funnel shape | Page types | Ads | Advertisers | Median est. spend | Top-tier rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Presell | Advertorial, listicle, quiz | 184 | 66 | $264K | 14.1% |
| Dedicated landing | Single-offer campaign page | 562 | 191 | $220K | 9.6% |
| Direct to store | Product, collection, homepage | 1,011 | 336 | $223K | 9.7% |
About 10% of the whole board reaches the top tier. Presell traffic beats that by four points, and it does so across all three page types: advertorials 15.8% (only 19 ads), listicles 14.0%, quizzes 13.9%. It's the most consistent landing-page signal on the board.

A caution before going further: this is association. Advertisers who build presell pages may also be better at creative, testing and offers. The page isn't the only variable.
Ads that feed presells argue more and push the offer less
The ads in front of presell pages look different from the ads that go straight to the store.
| Tag | Presell ads | Direct-to-store ads |
|---|---|---|
| Systematic breakdown angle | 28% | 17% |
| Expert explanation (hook mechanism) | 26% | 11% |
| Offer pressure (hook mechanism) | 3% | 10% |
| Medium-level proof | 72% | 60% |
| More than one variant | 43% | 25% |
Read together: presell ads explain, they don't discount. They break a problem into parts, put an expert in front of it, and show some proof. Then the presell page continues the explanation and the product page closes.
The variant number matters too. 43% of presell ads run more than one variant, against 25% of direct ads. Advertisers who build a presell page tend to test several doorways into it. We treat variant count as a scaling signal in ad variants as a scaling signal.

A low-ticket beauty product with a listicle presell. The ad challenges what the viewer thinks press-ons are; the listicle has room for the reasons before the shop.
The three presell formats
Each format suits a different reader. The awareness split on our board is the clearest guide.
| Presell type | Ads | Top awareness tag | Top angle | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Advertorial | 19 | Problem-aware (79%) | Root cause | Tells a story that explains why other fixes failed |
| Listicle | 86 | Unaware (42%) | Systematic breakdown | Gives a cold reader numbered reasons to care |
| Quiz | 79 | Unaware (30%), spread | Root cause, expert-based | Diagnoses and recommends a version |
Pick by the reader your ad attracts. If the ad names a pain the viewer already has, an advertorial has room to explain the cause. If the ad introduces something new, a listicle gives structure. If the product has versions or the buyer needs a diagnosis, a quiz chooses for them.

Presells that last for years
Presell funnels aren't a short-term trick. Some of the longest-running winners on the board point to one.

A founder story for a cat toy. The same advertiser runs seven ads into listicle pages. The presell carries the story; the product page only takes the order.
When the extra step pays off
Every page between the ad and the checkout loses some visitors. A presell only works if the people who keep going buy at a much higher rate than the ones who would have landed on the product page cold. Use the board's patterns to judge whether your situation fits.
A presell is likely worth testing when:
- Your best ad explains a cause, a mechanism or a comparison, and your product page can't repeat that explanation above the fold.
- Your audience is cold (unaware or problem-aware), which is where 62% of presell traffic sits on our board.
- You sell something people don't search for, so they need a reason before a product.
- You're running several creative variants and want one stable page behind them.
It's likely a waste when:
- Your ad leads with an offer or price. Only 3% of presell ads use offer pressure.
- The buyer already knows the product (retargeting, branded traffic).
- The product is simple and a demo video shows everything.
For the direct-to-store side of this decision, see product page vs landing page.
A presell page template
- Headline = the ad's promise. Same words, same number, same problem. The visitor should feel they clicked into the next paragraph.
- Label it as advertising if it looks like editorial content. The FTC's native advertising guide asks for a clear label such as "Advertisement" where readers look first.
- Explain the cause or the criteria. This is the part the product page can't do. One idea per section.
- Introduce the product as the answer, not as an interruption. By a third of the way down at the latest.
- Proof next to each claim. Presell ads lean on medium-level proof (72%): demos, specifics, testimonials you can back up.
- One CTA, repeated. Same button text, same destination, at least twice. Send it to a product page with the offer already applied.
- Keep the product page consistent. Same price, same images, same name. A mismatch at the handoff undoes the presell.
Ad Radar can filter winning ads by landing page type and shows a snapshot of the page behind each ad, with one click to rebuild it for your product. Start with the presell types, read a few end to end, then write yours (features). The funnel by awareness level guide helps decide which format to build first.
Figures marked as estimated spend come from Ad Radar's model of engagement on public Meta Ad Library ads. They are estimates, labeled as such, and are best used to rank ads against each other.
