The short answer
Facebook ads competitor analysis tools come in four types: the free Meta Ad Library, spy tools that search a big database, trackers that follow named brands and alert you, and analytics tools built around your own ad account. Pick by the job, not the feature list. A tracker that follows only brand Pages misses a lot: 16 of The Farmer's Dog's 43 winning ads on our board run from 11 other Pages.

Four types of tool, four different jobs
Facebook ads competitor analysis tools are often sold as one category, but they do different jobs. Some show you everything. Some search a big database. Some follow a short list of brands and tell you when something changes. Some analyze your own ad account and set it next to what competitors run. Buying the wrong type is the most common reason a tool goes unused after the first month.
Meta ads competitor analysis tools are the same market under a newer name. This article compares the types, with prices checked on each vendor's page on October 12, 2026. It is about tools. For the weekly routine you run with them, see our competitor ad research process.
| Type | Question it answers | Examples (entry price, checked October 2026) | What it won't do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Library | What is this brand running right now? | Meta Ad Library (free) | Rank ads, show spend, keep stopped ads |
| Spy tool | What is working in my niche? | GetHookd ($29 or $49/month), BigSpy ($69/month), AdSpy ($149/month), Ad Radar ($49 every 4 weeks) | Follow your list closely, unless it also tracks |
| Tracker | What changed for the brands I watch? | Swipekit ($26/month), Foreplay Spyder (from $175/month), Atria (free plan; paid from $129/month billed annually) | Find brands you don't know yet |
| Analytics | How do my ads compare, and why? | Atria, Motion (from $750/month), Segwise | See ads from accounts you don't own |
Libraries: the free source everything else reads from
The Meta Ad Library shows every active ad on Facebook and Instagram, with start date, versions, platforms and the creative. It is free and it is the source: every paid tool, ours included, reads from it after the fact. It doesn't show spend for commercial ads, can't rank them, and outside the EU it drops ads once they stop. Since early 2026 it can sort results by impressions, which helps, but it still shows no numbers. The developer API exists, but for commercial ads it only returns those delivered in the EU.
Use it for: a full picture of one competitor, today. Skip it for: comparing 20 brands or finding the winner among 40 live ads. Our list of free ad spy tools covers the free libraries on TikTok, Google and LinkedIn as well.
Spy tools: search a database you didn't build
A spy tool has already collected millions of ads, so you can search a niche or a phrase across brands you have never heard of. The difference between them is the signal they add to each ad.
- AdSpy is $149 a month for deep text, comment and URL search across Facebook and Instagram. Strong for affiliate offers.
- BigSpy starts at $69 a month for Facebook and Instagram, with TikTok, Google Ads and YouTube from the $159 Growth plan. A free plan gives 5 searches a day.
- GetHookd tracks over 22 million active Facebook and Instagram ads with filters by niche and format, from $29 or $49 a month ($19 or $32 billed yearly), depending on which of its two price lists you see as of October 2026. It states plainly that it does not estimate spend.
- Ad Radar holds far fewer ads on purpose: only Meta ads with $50K or more in estimated spend, tagged on ten dimensions, with search across copy and video transcripts. $49 every 4 weeks at the launch price (list $99).
The choice comes down to whether you want everything, including tests, or a shortlist. A big library is better for finding ads nobody else has seen. A filtered board is better for finding ads with money behind them. How any spend figure is built, and where it breaks, is in estimating competitor ad spend.
Trackers: follow a short list and get told what changed
A competitor ad tracker watches the brands you name, logs every new ad, keeps a copy when an ad stops, and alerts you. This is the type most teams actually need once they know their competitors, because competitor ad tracking is mostly about noticing change early.
- Swipekit Brand Tracker: 5 brands and 5 seats on Basic at $26 a month, 10 on Plus at $46, 15 on Agency at $66. API and MCP access on every plan, and a 14-day trial with no card.
- Foreplay Spyder: not on the $59 Basic plan. Workflow at $175 a month tracks 15 brands and Agency at $459 tracks 50, unlimited on annual billing. Foreplay also covers TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts and Google's Transparency Center.
- GetHookd Brand Spy is on every plan: add a brand and every new ad lands in your feed with its launch date.
- Atria Core follows 50 brands, at $129 a month billed annually.
- Ad Radar follows any brand from its Ad Library link, with a Today briefing of what changed and an alert when a followed brand's ad turns into a winner.
One test separates good trackers from weak ones: does it follow the brand or only its Page? Many brands run ads from creator and partner Pages. On our board:
43
winning ads sending traffic to The Farmer's Dog
16
of them run from 11 Pages that aren't the brand's
9 of 9
Midi Health winners run from creator Pages
396
of 749 brands have exactly one winning ad
A tracker that follows only the brand's Page would show Midi Health as running nothing. Track by landing domain where the tool allows it, or add the creator Pages by hand. Here is one of the ads a Page-only tracker would miss:
Good morning.
- Est. spend
- $827K
- Days live
- 46
- Format
- Video, 64s
A dog creator's Page running a top-tier ad for The Farmer's Dog, 46 days in. Follow the brand's Page alone and it never reaches your feed.
The last number in the stats row matters for setup too: more than half the brands on our board have a single winning ad. Following every brand in a niche fills your feed with noise. Follow the 10 to 25 that matter, and let a spy tool catch newcomers. Automating competitor ad monitoring shows how to wire alerts into a weekly digest.
Analytics: start from your own account
Creative analytics tools connect to your ad account, tag your ads and show which elements drive results. Some add a competitor view on top, so you can put your tags next to theirs.
- Atria Core covers 5 ad accounts and up to $500K a month in ad spend, plus the 50 followed brands above. The best fit if you want one tool for both sides.
- Motion is priced by your spend: Starter at $750 a month for up to $50K of monthly ad spend, Pro at $1,200 above that. Built for analyzing your own creative.
- Segwise tags creative across ad networks and MMPs. Every plan has every feature; plans differ on ad spend and AI limits, and you can start free with no card.
- Foreplay Lens analyzes your own ads: one brand on Workflow, ten on Agency.
None of these can see a competitor's results, because nobody can: Meta doesn't share them. They are worth the price when your question is "why is our ad winning?" rather than "what is theirs doing?". Our creative analytics tools comparison goes deeper.
Choosing Facebook ads competitor analysis tools by job
| Your job | Type | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Check what one competitor runs before a meeting | Library | Meta Ad Library, free |
| Find proven angles in a niche you're entering | Spy tool with a spend or performance signal | Ad Radar or GetHookd |
| Know within days when a competitor launches or scales | Tracker | Swipekit, Foreplay Spyder, GetHookd Brand Spy or Ad Radar |
| Run competitor research for several clients | Tracker with seats and workspaces | Foreplay Agency, Swipekit Agency, Ad Radar Agency ($199 every 4 weeks, 25 client workspaces, 5 seats) |
| Explain why your own ads win or lose | Analytics | Atria, Motion or Segwise |
| Research TikTok or LinkedIn as well as Meta | Multi-platform tracker | Foreplay or BigSpy Growth |
Two rules of thumb. If you can name your competitors, you need a tracker more than a spy tool. If you can't, start with a spy tool and turn the brands you find into a follow list.
Where other tools are the better choice
Ad Radar is our product, so here is where we would send you elsewhere:
- You run TikTok, LinkedIn or YouTube ads. Ad Radar covers Meta only. Foreplay and BigSpy cover more networks.
- You want analytics on your own account. Ad Radar doesn't connect to ad accounts. Atria, Motion and Segwise do. See Ad Radar vs Atria.
- You want every ad, tests included. GetHookd's 22 million active ads and AdSpy's text search find things a filtered board leaves out.
- You want the cheapest tracker for a team. Swipekit's $26 Basic includes 5 seats.
- You want one tool for saving, briefs and tracking across platforms. Foreplay does all three; Foreplay alternatives lists what else does.
Once the tool is picked, the work is the routine around it. Our guide to spying on competitor Facebook ads the legit way covers what to record for each ad and how to turn it into briefs without copying.
Figures marked as estimated spend come from Ad Radar's model of engagement on public Meta Ad Library ads. They are estimates, labeled as such, and are best used to rank ads against each other. How the board is built.
