The short answer
Longer than the usual short-form advice. Across 1,897 winning Meta video ads with a known length, the median is 64 seconds, half run between 41 seconds and 2 minutes 14, and 28% go past two minutes. The best results sit between 30 seconds and 2 minutes, while ads under 15 seconds reach the top tier least often.
The short answer in numbers
We measured every winning video on the Ad Radar board on October 9, 2026: 1,968 live Meta video ads, each with $50k or more in estimated spend. 1,897 have a known length.
64s

41s to 2m14s
the middle half of all winners
28%

3.4%
of ads under 15s reach the top tier
If you are writing a brief and want one number, write "about a minute." If you want a range, 30 seconds to 2 minutes covers 58% of winners and holds the best results. And if your script needs three minutes to make the case, plenty of winners run that long.
How long winning video ads are
| Length | Ads | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Under 15s | 87 | 5% |
| 15 to 30s | 183 | 10% |
| 30 to 60s | 618 | 33% |
| 1 to 2 min | 483 | 25% |
| 2 to 5 min | 421 | 22% |
| Over 5 min | 105 | 6% |
The single largest band is 30 to 60 seconds, a third of all winners. But more winning videos run over a minute (1,009) than under one (888). A quarter run 2 minutes 14 or longer, and one in ten runs past 4 minutes 10. The longest on the board runs almost 22 minutes.
What is rare is very short. Only 15% of winners are under 30 seconds.
Which lengths perform best
Knowing what brands run is half the answer. The other half is which lengths get the best results once they run.
| Length | Top-tier share | Median est. spend | Median days live | Share above $1M est. spend | Live 1+ year |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 15s | 3.4% | $231K | 98 | 3% | 7% |
| 15 to 30s | 8.7% | $215K | 110 | 11% | 10% |
| 30 to 60s | 9.9% | $255K | 120 | 14% | 14% |
| 1 to 2 min | 10.6% | $248K | 122 | 12% | 15% |
| 2 to 5 min | 8.3% | $227K | 122 | 11% | 12% |
| Over 5 min | 5.7% | $191K | 99 | 6% | 7% |
The curve is an arch. Results climb from the shortest ads, peak between 30 seconds and 2 minutes, and ease off past 5 minutes. The 30-to-60-second band has the highest median estimated spend and the largest share of $1M+ ads. The 1-to-2-minute band has the highest top-tier share and the longest runs.
Two things stand out. The 2-to-5-minute band holds up almost as well as the 15-to-30-second band, so long ads are not a penalty. And the under-15-second band is the weakest on every measure except median spend.
Why the shortest ads underperform
Look at who runs the 87 ads under 15 seconds and the pattern is obvious. Many are big consumer brands running 6-second spots: snack brands with sports tie-ins, marketplace promos, credit-card reminders. They are brand ads. A six-second spot can remind someone a brand exists. It can't explain a problem, show a product working and make an offer.
For DTC brands selling on direct response, that is the job. Our first 3 seconds of a video ad guide covers the opening. The data here says the opening needs something after it.
Short ads that do work tend to be very simple offers to people who already know the product, or one sharp line with an obvious payoff:

The sweet spot: 30 seconds to 2 minutes
This range holds 1,101 winners, 58% of all videos with a known length, and both of the best-performing bands. It is long enough for a full direct-response arc (hook, problem, product, proof, offer) and short enough that the arc doesn't sag.

Length depends on the format
The median length changes a lot by production format and video type. If your format is fixed, use its own benchmark rather than the board median.
| Production format | Ads | Median length |
|---|---|---|
| Product demo | 97 | 68s |
| UGC selfie | 76 | 81s |
| Creator skit | 20 | 93s |
| Cartoon or animation | 13 | 101s |
| Footage + voiceover | 177 | 113s |
| AI-generated | 76 | 153s |
| Founder or expert | 145 | 161s |
| Video type | Ads | Median length |
|---|---|---|
| Ad read / promo | 43 | 68s |
| UGC talking head | 49 | 72s |
| Demo of the mechanism | 131 | 109s |
| Voiceover listicle | 95 | 120s |
| Interview clip | 23 | 135s |
| Story narration | 108 | 185s |
| Expert authority | 72 | 204s |
Formats that show the product (demos, promos, UGC) run around a minute. Formats that teach or tell a story run two to three and a half minutes. Experts talk longest: the median expert-authority ad is nearly three and a half minutes. For more on those, see founder-led ads and footage + voiceover ads.
Length depends on the audience
| Reader awareness | Ads | Median length |
|---|---|---|
| Most aware | 143 | 43s |
| Product aware | 103 | 55s |
| Solution aware | 392 | 61s |
| Unaware | 637 | 71s |
| Problem aware | 405 | 73s |
The pattern is what you would expect from Eugene Schwartz's awareness levels. People who know the product need a reason to buy now, and that takes 43 seconds. People who don't know they have a problem need to be taught, and the ads for them run longer. The ads past 5 minutes are the most cold-audience heavy of any band: 45% target unaware viewers. Our awareness levels guide covers the copy side.
Length depends on the niche
| Niche | Videos | Median length |
|---|---|---|
| Food and nutrition | 139 | 38s |
| Apparel and fashion | 73 | 50s |
| Pet | 264 | 52s |
| Hair | 68 | 55s |
| Beauty | 68 | 60s |
| Skin | 174 | 95s |
| Joints | 161 | 112s |
| Foot | 108 | 114s |
| Stress and mood | 111 | 134s |
| Digestion | 197 | 147s |
| Inflammation | 51 | 189s |
There is a clean split. Products you can see and understand at a glance (food, clothes, pet products, hair and beauty) run under a minute. Health products that solve an internal problem run two minutes or more, because the ad has to explain what is going on inside the body before the product makes sense.
When long is right
Ads between 2 and 5 minutes reach the top tier at 8.3%, nearly the board rate, and 421 of them are winning right now. They are concentrated in health, expert and story formats, aimed at cold audiences.

We break down how long ads are structured in long-form video ads.
How to choose the length of your next video ad
| Situation | Start at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Retargeting, offer, known product | 30 to 45s | Most-aware ads on the board run a median of 43s |
| Visual product (food, apparel, pets, beauty) | 40 to 60s | Niche medians all under a minute |
| UGC or demo | 60 to 80s | Format medians of 68 to 81s |
| Health product, problem-aware buyer | 90s to 2 min | Joint, foot, skin medians of 95 to 114s |
| Cold audience, mechanism to explain | 2 to 4 min | Story and expert formats run 3 to 3.5 min |
| Brand awareness spot | 6 to 15s | Fine for reach, weakest for direct response |
A practical routine:
- Script for the arc, not the clock. Write the hook, problem, product, proof and offer. Then time it.
- Cut down, don't pad up. Record long and edit. A 60-second cut of a 3-minute winner is a cheap variant to test.
- Watch hold rate, not length. If viewers drop at second 20, the ad is too long at 21 seconds. If they stay, 3 minutes is fine. See hold rate benchmarks.
- Test two lengths of the same ad. The body stays the same, so you learn about length and nothing else.
- Check your niche. Filter the Ad Radar board by niche and look at the lengths of the ads that are spending today.
Figures marked as estimated spend come from Ad Radar's model of engagement on public Meta Ad Library ads. They are estimates, labeled as such, and are best used to rank ads against each other.
